Paperolle Reliquary First Class Relic St. Colette with a fragment of Holy Nail

Circular reliquary from the 19th century with a first-class, relic of St. Colette and a fragment of a Holy Nail (Paaschnagel).
St. Colette was a nun and reformer of the Sisters of the Poor (St. Clair). She devoted her life to the reformation of the order and a rededication to the poverty and service that St. Clair had advocated. Her order today is known as the Collettes. Numerous miracles involving children and expectant mothers are associated with St. Clair, dating to her own birth. Her biographer informs us that her parents were well advanced in years and childless. They prayed for a child, and by miracle, she was born. She is the patron saint of women seeking conception, expectant mothers, and sick children.
This small, humble paperolle relic is a proper homage to the life of St. Colette. The material is simple, but the design and craft are done with care and obvious fondness for the saint. The paperolle background is purple and surrounded by lovely wraps of orange, gold, and olive. The relics lie on turquoise inserts that offset the purple wonderfully. Simple materials made beautiful by color and attention to detail. The inclusion of a portion of a Holy nail demonstrates the high esteem in which the artisan held the sister.
