19th Cent. Reliquary 1 St Class Relic St. Dominic Conf. + Wax Seal
This remarkable 19th-century reliquary holds an ex carne relic of St. Dominic.
(born c. 1170, Caleruega, Castile [Spain]—died August 6, 1221, Bologna, Romagna [Italy]; canonized July 3, 1234; feast day August 8) was the founder of the Order of Friars Preachers (Dominicans), a mendicant religious order with a universal mission of preaching, a centralized organization and government, and a great emphasis on scholarship. He is a patron saint of the Dominican Republic and of astronomers.
Ex Carne – From the body of Saint Dominic.The relic is housed in a simple yet elegant oval brass reliquary with an aged patina that enhances its historical charm. It is securely enclosed beneath its original glass and displays a red silk background.
At the back of the reliquary, we find the Episcopal’ s wax seal of a Bishop holding the threads together and guaranteeing the authenticity of this holy relic.
